Nominations are now being accepted for the Men of Middle Earth Awards for Classic Fiction. A pairing will only become it's own category if it receives at least five distinct nominations in a specific fic size. If awards are going to be presented to as wide a variety of pairings as possible, it's so important that we receive a lot of nominations.
Nomination Tip: If you know of at least three ficlets (or drabbles, short fiction, etc.) in your favorite pairing that you consider to be exceptional and worthy of recognition, consider nominating all three and not just the one you like the most. That way you can almost guarantee that pairing will have its own category in that particular fic size.
You don't have to be a member to submit a story. So spread the word, find those exemplary stories and nominate, nominate, nominate!
General info: Classic Fiction
All RPS and FPS stories completed no later than December 31, 2005 are eligible for nomination. Crossovers are more than welcome: as long as half the pairing is from LOTR the fic is eligible for nomination. (For details about the FPS tracks and what's eligible, please see the user info page.
Awards will be granted to pairings and threesomes by the size of the story; the divisions are:
Drabbles (100 words)
Ficlets (101 - 1000 words)
Short Fiction (1001 - 8,000 words)
Long Fiction (8,001 and up)
A Novel length category (50K +) will be added if we receive enough nominations in a pairing to warrant this addition.
When nominating a story with multiple pairings please select the primary pair in your nomination. The story will be grouped with other fics of that pairing. If, however, all the pairs in the fic have equal billing and no one stands out as the "star," please include all pairs in your nomination and the decision of which pair should be used will be left up to the author.
More specific details of the nomination requirements and process can be found on the user info page. Because comments to this post will be screened, I can't answer questions here. If you need clarification about anything, please e-mail me. I'm an east coast girl who works 9 to 5, so if I'm not able to respond immediately, please know I will get back to you within the day.
Classic Fiction Award Schedule
October 1 - November 30: Nomination period
December 7 - January 19: Voting
January 26: Winners announced
Edit: Nomination period extended to December 12; voting will begin December 14.
How to nominate
The nomination period will close on November 30 at 11:59 pm EDT. You may nominate as many stories as you like. To do so, please comment to this post (comments are screened) or send an e-mail to the moderator with the following information:
Name of fic:
Word count:
Pairing:
Author:
URL for the fic or listing of chapters:
Locked journal?
Date when story completed:
Author's e-mail:
Nominator's e-mail: (I'd like your contact info in case clarification is needed about the nomination; this is optional but if I have a question or need additional info I will need to get in touch with you in some way to be able to count the nomination.)
Locked fics
You may nominate a story if it is in a locked journal. However, whether or not the story will become part of the official nomination process depends on whether the author (a) agrees to unlock the story from December - January so everyone can read it, or (b) is willing to post it temporarily at
lotrfics and have it unlocked for public reading from December - January. Obviously, fics will only have to be unlocked or posted to
lotrfics if their fic earns enough nominations to become part of the final ballots.
Questions? Just let me know.
